Rajon Rondo was already one of the NBA’s most polarizing players. This week he went and got traded and whipped the basketball world into a frenzy. There was a lot to unpack with this deal, but in the end, it’s no surprise that Zach Lowe had the most nuanced take. The fact of the matter is, as Lowe points out, Rondo’s knee injury robbed the Celtics of ‘the sweet spot’ as Lowe put it, where Rondo’s value would have been highest.
The more fascinating thing might be the basketball science experiment the Mavs are now conducting. What happens when you introduce a poor-outside-shooting-passing-savant to the League’s best offense? Personally, I’m not sure... but I’m intrigued.
